The Advent Event on Saturday November 29, 3:00-7:00 is an event for the whole family to help prepare for the season of Advent. We will do Advent crafts together, including making an Advent wreath which you can take home. We will learn the stories in our Christian family tree by decorating the Jesse tree together. After the 5:00 Mass, we will have potluck dinner and play an Advent bingo game – always a big hit with the kids! If you could bring a salad or dessert to share, it would be greatly appreciated!
The following week (Sunday, December 7) will be the Guignolée: a time when members of the parish go door to door to collect food and money for the food baskets which are then distributed to poor households in Aylmer in time for Christmas. This is a real expression of what we are called to do as Christians – “for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.” (Matthew 25: 35). In our consumer society, it is also an important way to teach our children the true importance of Christmas. We gather at noon in the basement (right after the 11:00 Mass) for a lunch which is provided by the parish, and then are sent out in teams. When we have enough people, it should not last more than two hours (and you can leave early if you have cold or tired little people with you!) We really need extra people to help us out, so please spread the word to friends and family members.
